Bella Thorne is just like us, and she proved that in her recent interview with Maxim when she named Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato as her celebrity crushes.
Bella told Maxim she goes all googly-eyed for Miley and Demi and we totally understand. Bella called them “toasty,” and we agree.
“Demi Lovato. I must say…rawrrrr, Bella said. “She is a pretty toasty woman. Miley Cyrus, too. She’s dope. But Demi is fire, just fire.”
Beyond Bella’s impeccable taste in crushes, though, there’s another reason why Bella’s answer is important. By naming Demi and Miley as her crushes, Bella continues to show the world that biSєxuality exists and it’s real.
Erasure is a huge issue in the biSєxual community because there’s a lot of skepticism around the idenтιтy. For some reason, a lot of people have the idea that biSєxual people are just confused, or that they should “pick one.” Even though there are more young people who identify as biSєxual than ever, that perception continues. Because of all the skepticism, we don’t see biSєxual people on TV or in movies all that often, contributing to the idea that they don’t really exist. By speaking very casually about her idenтιтy, Bella is making a statement, whether she means to or not, that being biSєxual is real and it’s OK.
Bella made the same statement when she came out. There wasn’t a huge announcement, she just answered a fan’s question on Twitter. To her it wasn’t a big deal, but Bella said there has been pushback from people in her industry.
“It is hard in this business for us. It really is. I have already had people talk sh-t to me,” Bella told Maxim. “And it comes from people in the industry, not even fans. I’ve had studios tell me my image is too ‘out there,’ hinting at it but not really saying it.”
Despite pushback, Bella refuses to be anyone but herself, which is amazing. The same thing goes for her relationships. Bella, who’s currently dating Tyler Posey, said it’s important to find someone who accepts all of you.
“Somebody who gets you, that relationship where somebody’s just completely accepted who I am as a person and is just like, ‘F–k it!’I love that,” Bella said.
We love that too, and we love that Bella is unapologetically herself. Whether she means to or not, Bella is showing countless other people that being themselves is ok and they aren’t alone.
